Launching of the MRA Corporate Plan 2011 - 2013

The second Corporate Plan of the MRA for the period 2011 to 2013 was launched by the Hon Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Vice Prime Minister & Minister of Finance & Economic Development on 19 January 2011 at La Cannelle, Domaines Des Pailles in the presence of the Chairperson, members of MRA Board, Director-General and the Management Team and senior staff of the MRA. The Corporate Plan serves as an organisation’s strategic framework for action during a stipulated period of time in the future and acts as a roadmap towards the fulfilment of the organisation’s strategic objectives.
The five key strategic objectives that have been envisaged for the MRA for the Corporate Plan period are as follows:
- Promoting Voluntary Compliance
- Providing Quality services
- Developing people, processes & technology
- Facilitating trade and ensuring border & society protection
- Strengthening good governance & corporate image
For each of these strategic objectives, the Corporate Plan lays down a number of strategic initiatives which will be measurable in terms of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). MRA will continue to use these Key Performance Indicators together with set targets to monitor success in achieving the strategic objectives.

International Customs Day

The International Customs Day was celebrated all over the world on 26 January 2011. This year the theme for the celebration given by the World Customs Organization is “knowledge, a catalyst for Customs Excellence” To mark this event, the Mauritius Revenue Authority organized a programme at the New Custom House, Mer Rouge. The Chairman of the MRA, Mr. V. Hassamal was present at the function as the chief guest. The Director of Customs, Mr. S. Mendes addressed the audience and after the speech of Mr. S.Lal, Director General of the MRA, the program consisted of the following items:
- Presentation of certificates of merit to 10 Customs Officers with regard to their contribution to dissemination of knowledge and capacity building in the Customs Department.

The launching of the new version of the Customs Intranet.

The presentation of the Commemorative Cover marking the Bicentenary of the Customs Department by Mr. V.Hassamal, the Chairperson MRA in the presence of the Chairman and the CEO of Mauritius Post.

Presentation of the history of the Customs Department by the historian Ms Manorama Akung.
