GUIDE FOR MRA E-SERVICES , E-FILING and E-PAYMENT 2013

In 2012, 82% of total individual return was received electronically, indicating that E-Filing facilities are becoming more popular among taxpayers. This year the MRA has enhanced the security feature for electronic filing system for individual income tax returns by allocating to each taxpayer a User ID (Login) and a Password. The User ID (Login) is your Tax Account Number (TAN). To file your return electronically (e-filing) using this facility, you need to register for MRA E-services. The registration is simple, quick, free of any charge and allows you to update your personal information. Once registered, you will be able to get a pre-filled return, your refund, if any, credited to your bank account provided you have given your bank details on registration and benefit from other facilities. The MRA encourages taxpayers to avail themselves of this facility and join the bandwagon of modernity while contributing to the Maurice Ile Durable (MID) project by reducing the use of papers.

This guide is intended to assist taxpayers to file their returns electronically and to elaborate on the various modes for the payment of tax.

This year also taxpayers having recourse to e-filing will benefit from several incentives namely:

  1. An extended delay of up to 15 April 2013 to taxpayers who file their returns electronically and effect payment of tax, if any, using internet banking, ATM or mobile payment.
  2. E-filers will participate in a draw offering 20 prizes, the first prize being Rs 50,000.
  3. No documents need to be submitted if you file your income tax electronically.
