  1. MRA Press Conference

    Press1The Director General, MRA, Mr. Sudhamo Lal, met the press, along with the Chairperson, MRA Board, Mr. Vasdev Hassamal and the MRA Management team on Monday 16th January 2012 at the MRA Head Office, Port Louis. The objective of the Press Conference was to present four Amnesty Schemes (TASS, VDIA, VRIS, and EDRTS) as well as the achievements of the MRA since its inception in 2006 as well as the future projects scheduled for the year 2012. The Chairperson, MRA Board, Mr. Vasdev Hassamal appealed to the members at the Press for their support in sensitizing the population at large on the 4 new schemes. Mr. Lal also spoke about the enforcement activities, trade facilitation at Customs, integrity management and automation projects.

     

  2. International Customs Day

    IntCusDayMain1The Hon. Xavier Luc Duval, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance & Economic Development was the chief guest for the celebration of the International Customs Day and the 60th anniversary of the World Customs Organization on 26th January 2012 at the Custom House, Mer Rouge. In line with the theme, “Borders divide, Customs connects”, chosen by WCO for 2012, the function was broadcast live at Custom House, Ehram Court and PATS Autonomous Unit, Airport so as to enable all MRA staff to stay connected.

    The programme consisted of the following items:

    • Planting of tree ceremony and the inauguration of a Customs Museum by the Hon. Xavier Luc Duval, Vice Prime Minister
    • Launching of the WCO e-Learning Program for capacity building
    • Launching of a Special Commemorative Cover by Mr. G. Moteea, CEO, Mauritius Post Ltd
    • Award of WCO certificates of merit to 10 Customs Officers

  3. IMF Meeting

    IMFfeb2012aIn the context of Article IV of IMF, two IMF experts; Mr. Martin Petri ; Team Leader and Mr. Antonio C. David ; Economist for African Department visited Mauritius from 11th to 25th January 2012. In the course of their consultation, these experts had a meeting  with the Director General, MRA on the 12th of January 2012 at the Head Office of MRA whereby the Director General, MRA chaired a meeting in the presence of Compliance Directors and the Acting Director Research, Policy and Planning Department to discuss the items relating to revenue administration and future projects.

     

  4. Meeting with Accountants

    AccountantsOn 20th January 2012 at 2pm at Head Office of MRA, a meeting was held between the representatives of accounting firms and the Director General, MRA, Mr. Sudhamo Lal, members of the management team were also present. This meeting has now become a regular feature, in keeping with MRA’s objective to organize regular meeting with its stakeholders in order to share views and ideas in order to offer better service to the public. Some 35 Accountants attended the briefing session on the new measures brought in the Finance Act 2011. Special emphasis was laid on the four Amnesty Schemes with power point presentation.

     

  5. Briefing session on Income Tax at the MEF

    MEXAOn 30th January 2012, at  Head Office of the MEF Management School, Ebène, the Mauritius Employers Federation (MEF) organized with the support of the MRA a briefing session on Income Tax. Mr. D Ramdin, Director, Operational Services Department of the MRA spoke about the latest amendments on PAYE, CPS, APS, TASS incentive scheme. Mr. M Hannelas, Director, Medium & Small Taxpayers Department of the MRA intervened on TDS, CSR, and EDRTS incentive schemes. Mrs. C Gunnoo Director, Fiscal Investigations Department of the MRA, explained on VAT changes, VRIS & VDIA schemes as measures brought about in the Finance Act 2011. Dr Vishal Ragoobur, Senior Economist at the MEF was also present at the session.
